As the rain fell harder, the horrors and dismay of the locals began. Cities of Campbell were buried in a soup of mud and debris when a flash flood struck at around 2 pm, as confirmed by a City Fire and Rescue Department spokesman. Residents saw water gushed down the unlit streets. The turbid liquid sickly brown, carrying the trash that usually adorns the sidewalks. It swallowed half the wheels of the vehicles parked on the roads.

When the water started leaking under the buildings’ doorways — slowly filling the rooms from wall to wall — 58-year-old May who has been living in Campbell for the last 10 years knew there was no time to wait around for help. They were left to fend for themselves. She gathered her family and together they carefully climbed their way up to their fractured tiny roof that was dressed in thick layers of moss. While they sat shivering on the rooftop, watching the cold-blooded waves tore down everything that stood in its way, May let a single tear cascade down her cheeks. That cold, cold night, the flood didn’t just wash away everything in the neighborhood, it swallowed the shards of the people’s hopes too.
